Biography

Dr. Danielle V. Shelov, PhD, earned her doctorate from Ferkauf Graduate School in New York City, affiliated with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She received extensive training at Montefiore and Bellevue hospitals, as well as at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at Columbia Psychiatric Institute. A pioneer in integrating yoga into mental health practices, Dr. Shelov collaborated on a groundbreaking study at Einstein exploring yoga's impact on women undergoing breast cancer treatment. Her doctoral research focused on yoga's effects on mindfulness, cardiovascular reactivity, and empathy. She completed her clinical internship at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Dr. Shelov's therapeutic approach emphasizes understanding individuals within the context of their families, childhood experiences, relationships, and larger systems as crucial to psychological treatment. She integrates past experiences with present engagement to foster positive future goals. Trained in Systems Centered Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and couples therapy under Dr. Hedy Schleiffer, Dr. Shelov brings a comprehensive approach to her practice. Dr. Shelov is currently undergoing a year-long intensive training at the Integrative Psychiatric Institute (IPI), focusing on the application of psychedelic therapies, Psylocibin, Ketamine and MDMA into traditional therapy.

  • Danielle V. Shelov, PhD, has worked in the field of eating disorders for more than sixteen years. Being a trained yoga teacher and clinical psychologist gave Dr. Shelov a rare combination of mind-body education and insight.

    Dr. Shelov frequently lectures on the topic of eating disorders at various medical institutions, NYU, Maimonides Medical Center, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and she served as an adjunct professor at Ferkauf Graduate School. Dr. Shelov had the opportunity to co-sponsor Avalon Hills (residential eating disorder treatment center) at NYU-Langone when they presented their pioneering neuropsychological work with eating disorders. Dr. Shelov is a frequent collaborator with schools in New York and Connecticut, where she educates students and parents alike on the topic of eating disorders and body image.

    Dr. Shelov also runs a professional training program in her group practice, allowing eating to be treated on a sliding scale and providing newer clinicians with comprehensive training in the field.
